Meta has acquired Conductor, a young startup whose app lets developers run several AI coding agents side by side on the same project. The deal was confirmed on November 4, 2026. Terms were not disclosed, the team joins Meta Superintelligence Labs, and Conductor Cloud users have until November 20 to move their work.
Key facts
- Meta confirmed on November 4, 2026 that it has acquired Conductor, an AI coding startup first reported by Axios. Financial terms were not disclosed.
- Conductor’s app runs several coding agents at once, such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and OpenCode, each in its own isolated copy of the codebase.
- CEO Charlie Holtz and CTO Jackson de Campos join Meta Superintelligence Labs, where they will work with Alexandr Wang and Nat Friedman.
- New sign-ups and downloads stopped on November 4. Conductor Cloud workspaces become read-only on November 13 and the service shuts down on November 20, after which cloud data will be deleted.
- The local Mac app keeps working until early 2027, when it stops getting new models and critical fixes.
What happened
Conductor was founded in 2024 and launched its product in the summer of 2025. Its idea is simple to describe: instead of talking to one coding agent at a time, a developer can spin up several agents in parallel, give each one a separate part of the project, and then review and merge the results. Conductor does not have its own model. Users bring their own subscriptions and API keys for agents made by labs such as Anthropic and OpenAI.
According to ShiftDelete, the company raised a $22 million Series A in March 2026 from Spark and Matrix, and its newer Conductor Cloud moved agents into isolated virtual machines that can keep working for hours. TechCrunch reports that the agent teams could run in the cloud, locally or from a phone.
Meta confirmed the purchase to TechCrunch but gave no further details. In a blog post, Holtz wrote that the team has “big, crazy plans for the next interface” and promised customers something new early next year. TechCrunch adds that Meta launched its own coding agent, Muse Code, in August 2026. The deal landed on the same day OpenAI announced it would acquire Pierre, another developer tools startup.
Why it matters
Two of the largest AI companies bought developer tool makers on the same day. The pattern is clear: writing code with a single assistant is no longer the frontier. The new problem is coordination, meaning how a person directs several agents, keeps their work separate and checks what they produce before it reaches the main project.
Conductor was one of the better known tools built around that workflow, and it worked with agents from competing labs. Bringing that team inside Meta suggests the next generation of Meta’s coding products will be built for many agents at once, not one chat window.
For current users the impact is immediate and practical. Anyone with work in Conductor Cloud needs to transfer workspaces to the Mac app or export their data before the deadlines. Conductor says it has never sold or trained on user data and will delete it when the service closes. Teams that relied on the app should also start looking at alternatives before support for the local app ends in early 2027.
How to try it
Whatever tool you use to run agents, they all work better when the project explains itself. A clear README is the shared briefing that every agent, and every new teammate, reads first. Our free Documentation for your project prompt turns what you already know into a structured README and lists the gaps as TODOs instead of inventing details.
Open the prompt and fill in the fields: the project name and idea, what you know about it (how to install and run it, where settings live, what each folder does), and who will read it. For example: name “Pantry Tracker, a small web app that logs what is in the cupboard and suggests a shopping list”, what you know “Python 3.12, install with pip install -r requirements.txt, run with flask run, database file in data/pantry.db, settings in config.toml”, readers “Developers”.
Paste the result into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini. Check that every command matches what you wrote and that nothing was added that you did not mention. If you are moving away from Conductor, keep the README in the repository so the next tool you choose starts from the same facts.
